Odesk.com, which has recently rebranded to become UpWork.com, is a website that allows you to hire freelance workers for various tasks. UpWork allows freelancers to get hired and paid for the services they provide. After a potential employer posts a job ODesk (or Upwork) analyzes your needs and sends you a list of potential candidates that you can choose from to do your work. You are then able to look at the candidates profile, their proposals and even schedule a meeting to decide who will best meet your needs. Then you have open communication sending files and receiving feedback until the job is completed. You are able to pay via many major credit cards. They also have a mobile app to make things easier.
Upwork Pros and Cons
One of the benefits of using upwork.com is that the site is easy to navigate and fairly intuitive. They have 3 different membership plans depending on what your needs and how often you intend on hiring. They also provide a large variety of payment options and make connecting to your bank simple.
Unfortunately, one of the issues with Upwork.com is that they take 10% fee of each job, which is relatively high. Given the high number of applications, it can be very difficult to weed through to find the true talent amongst the unqualified applicants. There are also a number of individuals who have noted that their website is unreliable and can be slow.
Check them out for your next project.
